Born To Run The Numbers:
Political Blog

Lead Opinion Writer, Born To Run The Numbers.

For years, my brother Tom had an unusual hobby: he tinkered with models for predicting election results, sharing his projections by email with a small group of devoted followers. His forecasting was uncannily accurate, and the list of interested readers grew like a weed.

Eleven years later www.borntorunthenumbers.com is consistently rated one of Feedspot’s “Top 100 Political Blogs and Websites.” Over the lifetime of the blog, Tom has made predictions in 3,692 races, including all of the 56 states and districts in each Presidential election since 2008, each Senate race since 2008, each House race since 2010 and each Governor race since 2014. Of those 3,692 elections, he has been correct 3,534 times, or 95.7%. These are comparable figures to those of other poll aggregators, and Tom outdid them all (including FiveThirtyEight.com) in 2022.

Gradually, the unique brand identity of the site took shape: committed wholly to objectivity and accuracy in its quantitative analysis, all while unabashedly embracing a progressive political philosophy. Tom is known for deep, well-researched, and quantitatively-grounded analyses of political trends and current issues, all the while maintaining his extraordinary accuracy in election forecasting.

I write sharp, snarky, and highly charged opinion pieces on political topics from A to Z… from commentary on media bubbles, campaign strategy, a certain former President’s legal woes, policy debates, to America’s epidemic of gun violence. Our articles are not the norm in today’s “tweet and sound byte” social media grazing. On average, we produce four new columns a month, each roughly 3,500 words (that’s five to seven pages, single-spaced).

I take particular satisfaction in laying bare examples of hypocrisy, deceit, and disingenuousness, all in no short supply among contemporary politicians. A fan favorite: every year on the day that the music industry hands out the Grammys, Born To Run The Numbers announces the winners of our “Lindsey Grahammys” —awards recognizing the year’s most egregious examples of Republican hypocrisy.

Overt the history of the blog, we have had nearly 1.5 million readers. Sign up to join our mailing list at borntorunthenumbers@gmail.com
